A planning team comprised of representatives from Town of Quartzsite, Town of Parker and La Paz County representing Planning and Zoning, Public Works, Emergency Management and various other agencies will be meeting regularly to participate in a hazard mitigation planning process. The team will develop a Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan for the Town of Quartzsite according to The Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA2K).

The DMA2K requires all local, counties, tribal and state governments to have a FEMA approved hazard mitigation plan in order to be eligible for federal hazard mitigation funds. The plan will focus on the area’s most threatening hazards to citizens and property and will provide a strategy to reduce or eliminate the risk from those hazards.

The planning team anticipates having a plan draft in late summer 2011, at which time the public will be provided the opportunity to review the plan and comment.
